The Honorable John Chiang endorses Teddy Kapur for Los Angeles City Attorney

Los Angeles – The campaign for Teddy Kapur for City Attorney announced a new endorsement by former California State Treasurer and State Controller John Chiang.

Following last week’s endorsement from Senator Maria Elena Durazo, the news signaled growing momentum for The Campaign Against Injustice and Teddy Kapur for City Attorney.

“Los Angeles is suffering unprecedented physical, emotional and financial losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Teddy’s experience and community leadership will help get us back on track,” the Honorable John Chiang wrote in a statement of support. “He has the integrity, tenacity and new perspectives that we need in City Hall. I enthusiastically endorse Teddy Kapur for Los Angeles City Attorney.”

“I have immense respect for John’s fiscal leadership and fierce advocacy for immigrants, and I’m proud to have earned his endorsement,” Kapur wrote in reply. “As State Controller, John led California through the 2008 Financial Crisis. As State Treasurer, John’s smart fiscal decisions saved California taxpayers billions of dollars.”

“Imagine LA launched a Financial Wellness Pathways Initiative to create living wage career tracks for parents who have experienced homelessness,” Kapur added. “As Chair of the Board of Imagine LA and a teacher of a job search class at LA City College, I know firsthand that Los Angeles can connect fiscal discipline with compassionate advocacy to lift families out of poverty. If elected to the City Attorney’s office, I’ll consult with experts like John to build innovative solutions.”

Teddy Kapur is a solutions-oriented and collaborative leader with the integrity needed in City Hall. Through his advocacy, he has empowered families to escape poverty, saved struggling businesses, and unified diverse communities to fight hate. He is the Chair of the Board of Directors of Imagine LA, Treasurer of the California Democratic Party, and a partner at Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones LLP. He has served on the regional boards of the Anti-Defamation League, New Ways to Work, South Asian Bar Association, South Asian Network, and the West Hollywood/Beverly Hills Democratic Club.
